5 Tips for Healthy Eating While Traveling

Eating healthy while traveling is hard for most of us because we want to try all that yummy food! However, there are ways of eating healthy and splurging all at the same time! I have been traveling for the past 3 weeks and we have 2 more weeks to go. That means five weeks of eating most of my meals in restaurants, and as a huge carb lover (and carb restirctor when at home!) it's very easy for that to get out of hand!

We left our home in Utah on June 1st and are traveling by RV. Our first destination was Orlando Florida for my company's convention. We then moved onto Disney World for 11 days. The final destination is NY for a wedding and then back home by July 4th (we hope!).

Between being in Florida at Disney and going back to NY we have a LOT of favorite restaurants! Having a lot of favorite restaurants means that if I'm not a little careful about what I'm eating it can get pretty crazy pretty quickly.

Tips for Eating Healthy

  • Who loves a good cheeseburger? I'll be the first to raise my hand! You can be eating healthy and still have a burger! Cheeseburgers have always been a huge love of mine and don't forget the fries. So do I still love cheeseburgers? Yes! I have found the best way to have a burger and cut out some of the carbs and calories is to not get the bun. A burger is quite satisfying when it's lettuce wrapped. I don't even miss the bun. So get your burger lettuce wrapped! I'll still eat some of my fries although likely not all of my fries since portion sizes are so big, however it's still very filling!
  • Don't let yourself get so hungry to the point of making poor decisions! Eating healthy means keeping your blood sugar levels stable. If I've eaten every few hours I'm much less likely to get to lunch or dinner and order a huge calorie laden meal. Pack a snack to take with you so if you are starting to get hungry you have something healthy to eat. Some of my favorite portable snacks are 1 scoop of my favorite protein shake, raw cashews, cheesesticks, pepperoni sticks, trail mix, or fruit.
  • If you had a big calorie laden meal for lunch go smaller on your dinner. This is especially true if I am eating lunch and dinner out. I'll pick one meal to splurge on and the other I'll have something small. For example if I am going to have a large lunch than for dinner I'll order a salad or something off the appetizer menu. I'll also try to stick to low carb options for that smaller meal as well. Veggies with hummus, caprese salad, soup, etc. Or I'll get a piece of meat, think steak or chicken, with veggies.
  • Eat breakfast! You will feel much better through out the day if you have not starved yourself. My go to for breakfast while traveling is a meal replacement shake or I really love the Kind bars. Find something with real ingredients in it, my rule is I should be able to pronounce all the ingredients in my food!
  • ave dessert! Yes you are on vacation so have your cake and eat it too! We don't have dessert every night however, when we do I get a kids size or share it with someone. If I am getting a kids size dessert or sharing one with my hubby or BFF I'm still satisfying that sweet craving but not getting overly full! It's the best of both worlds!

As you can see there are lots of little things you can swap out so you can stay healthy while traveling but still indulge a little. If you are wondering, I have gained 1 pound so far on this 3 week trip, I'm calling that a success so far! What are your favorite tips for eating health while traveling?

STEP 1: What is your BAND Size?

Using a tape measure place is directly under your bust. Make sure it is snug and round to the nearest whole number. If it is even add 4 inches. If it's odd add 5 inches. Your band is the sum of those calculations. For example if you measured 34 inches your band size is 38 or if you measured 33 inches your band size is 38.


STEP 2: What is your BUST Size?

Using a tape measure measure around the widest part of your chest (nipple level). Round to the nearest whole number. 

 

STEP 3: What is your CUP Size?

Subtract your band size from your bust size and refer to the chart below. Example 37 inch bust - 34 inch band size = 3 inches. That's a 34C.
